How To Create Good Habits In 3 Easy Steps!

Hey, it’s Matt, with operationawesomelife.com.  Today’s video topic is How To Create Good Habits In Three Easy Steps!

[Video Transcript] If you’re someone that wants to change a behavior or a bad habit around in your life, if there’s something that you don’t like about yourself or that’s not getting you the type of results that you’re looking to obtain in your life, then I think this video is going to be really important for you to listen to. I think it’s going to help you out. And more importantly, it’s not going to overwhelm you with 15 steps you need to go through. And all kinds of crazy tasks you need to do to change your habit.

In fact, I think you can easily change your habit in three easy steps. I’m going to give you those three easy steps today. Hopefully, you can use them to create good habits in your life that you want. Habits that will get you to where you ultimately want to be!

The First Step To Creating New Habits That Stick

The first step is having an important reason. Reason, is the first step. You have to have a good enough reason to want to change the habit or behavior. If you don’t have a good enough reason, then you may change your habit and your behavior.  But over time you’re going to forget or you’re going to fall off the wagon because you don’t really have a strong enough why.  Or a strong enough reason.

Tony Robbins likes to talk about having a strong enough why.  I believe that it is really important.  If you don’t have that strong enough why and reason for doing something in the first place then it’s not going to create lasting change. It’s going to create a temporary change.  But then as life gets difficult or things come into your life that are a little stressful you might fall back into your old ways of doing things and it’s not going to ultimately help you fix or create the desired good habit.

The Second Step To Creating New Habits That Stick

The second thing that you want to pay attention to is action. The second step is action. After you have developed a good enough reason, a strong enough why to change this habit or behavior, now you need to take immediate action.

The sooner you can take action putting your new habit or behavior into action the better. That’s going to make it fresh in your mind. It’s going to start the momentum in your favor for changing the old way of doing something into the new way of doing something. And it’s going to psychologically give you a little bit of boost. It will remind you of why you’re doing this and give you more reason to continue.

The Third Step To Creating New Habits That Stick

The third step involved here is repetition. This probably is the most important one. After you have your reason and take your initial action, you have to continue to repeat that action. You have to ingrain it, to build a neural pathway in your brain so that your brain develops a habitual way of doing the new habit.

If you continue to do something over and over again what happens is, you’re going to make it automatic for yourself. And your brain’s not going to have to try so hard to make you do it.

When you’re first trying to start to change something in your life and change an old way of doing something into a new way it can be hard. What often happens is your brain is exhausted. You’re tired because you have to put a lot of mental energy out to concentrate really hard and make sure you do the thing that you want to do and create the new behavior.

The New Habit Becomes A Habitual Way Of Life

Once you’ve done it for a little while and repeated the behavior over and over again, you’ll start to notice that it is more automatic. It just comes to you.

It’s like shooting a jump shot. The first time you do, you probably won’t even hit the rim. You probably won’t hit the backboard, you’re going to totally airball it. As you practice that jump shot over and over again, what happens?

You develop a habitual way of doing things. It’s just automatic. You start making shots without even trying very hard. That’s what will happen with your new habits in your life.

If you continue to repeat them consistently over and over again, then they will become so naturally ingrained in your mind that it won’t even be difficult at all to do them.

In fact, it will feel as though it’s something that you have done your whole entire life. You will feel like it was always a part of you. And it will be hard to believe that you used to live that other way and you didn’t do things the way that you currently do them.
