You Make 0% Of The Shots You Don’t Take!

“You have a 0% chance of succeeding at something that you don’t give an all out shot!”

How Golf Applies To Business

Hello there. It’s Matt with Operation Awesome Life. After my practice at the golf course, I went to the driving range and later to the putting green. As I was practicing my putting, a thought crossed my mind that you make zero percent of the putts that don’t reach the hole.

So I could putt a hundred times over, but if I never putt it hard enough to actually reach the hole or the cup, then I’m gonna make zero percent of my putts. This is actually a great parallel to business; you make zero percent of the putts that don’t reach the hole but you also have a zero percent chance of the opportunities that you don’t try.

“It doesn’t matter how many great opportunities come into your life if you don’t actually give them a shot. If you don’t make the putt then there is no chance in them really turning into something great.”

What Stops People From Giving It There All?

Lots of golfers leave putts short of the hole, but why do they do this?

When you are playing golf, the reason why you don’t putt it hard enough to reach the cup is, a lot of times you are afraid that if you putt it too hard it’s going to run past the cup. Which if you hit it too hard the fear is that you will have an even longer second putt, which could turn into a three or four putt, therefore it will obviously impact your score detrimentally; because in golf you are trying to have the lowest amount of strokes wins.

But in business we are not measured by our failures, we are measured by our successes. So you might as well take all the shots that you can!

Time To Give It A Shot!

Get out there and give it a shot. Often times we are bombarded with all kinds of opportunities and we buy a lot of courses and trainings, and little by little they start cluttering up our desktops and our computers and even our minds.

Since we never actually give these opportunities a shot or go for it and don’t worry about missing, messing up or failing, they just keep cluttering up our lives; and worse yet it starts to give us doubts in ourselves and the more doubt you have that you are going to succeed at something the less chance that you will actually go ahead and give it a shot.

Due to fear of failure we don’t want to feel those feelings of not succeeding. No one wants to feel like a failure or like someone that is not going to succeed, so it causes a lot of pain for us psychologically and that makes us not want to give these new opportunities a try.

“That is why I think its so important that we just get used to the idea of just making sure we don’t come up short on the putt. Give it everything that you can, go for it!”

4 Easy Steps To Make Sure To Give It Everything You’ve Got And NOT Come Up Short!

  1. Locate the target or goal you are trying to reach.  In golf it is the cup/hole.  In business, it may be coming up with X number of products/videos/books/etc..(DECIDE WHAT IT IS FOR YOU!)
  2. Whatever your target or goal is decide that no matter what you will not come up short.  For instance if your goal is to come up with 10 new promotional videos by a certain date, then MAKE IT UP IN YOUR MIND YOU WILL NOT COME UP SHORT OF THAT GOAL – NO MATTER WHAT EVEN IF THE 10 NEW PROMOTIONAL VIDEOS FAIL – YOU WON’T COME UP SHORT OF THAT GOAL!
  3. Map out how you plan to reach the target or goal.  If you have 20 days to reach your goal of 10 new promotional videos, then you need to do a little math to decide how many videos you have to do per day to reach your goal.  20 days / 10 videos = 1 video every 2 days.
  4. Take massive action and make sure you hit your goal or go beyond it!

“Make every effort you can to succeed at something and never get upset with yourself if you fail. Only get upset with yourself if you don’t give it a shot.”

I made up a new rule in my golf game; I will never get mad at myself for missing a putt that I went pass the hole. I only get mad at myself if I miss a putt that I didn’t hit the ball hard enough to actually reach the hole.

Hopefully this is something you got some value from and I hope you are having an amazing day.
